Features Introduction
Once again, the goal of this program is to map the colors from one image to another. The idea is to not care how visually accurate the final image is. In fact, the program allows you to create some truly awful images. Often it takes some work finding the right settings to give you an effect you like. And often the results are not what you expect.
The feature set has expanded far beyond what I ever imagined. And so much has been automated now that you can let the program cycle through a bunch of presets, let it run, and come back to see images that usually surprise you (note, I'll talk about performance in the Technical Section, suffice to say this won't be an Instagram filter any time soon).
Aside from color-matching, there are a number of post-processing features to allow more creative control and allow some interesting blending effects between the images. The program has expanded into a form of collage. And I'm just discovering how you can create a "feedback loop" by mapping images onto previously created images to create some really interesting results. There are also ways to distort the source colors that creates some unique effects.
Also, the very segmentation process itself (each image is divided into regions) provides some creative possibilities. Near the end I show how I might go about creating a final image and how I integrate third-party tools like Photoshop and Corel Painter into the workflow.
And also, there are ways to create video!
So, let's start simple and play with some candy (the things we do for science and art).
